First things first, Epsom has an abundance of green space. I have enjoyed several walks locally, with Epsom Common a keen favourite jaunt.
Exercise hasn't got to be in a gym or a setting that you are less inspired by. We know that you can increase your fitness with walking activity and why not with so much great outdoor space around us.
I'm close to Horton Park, which has a long walk all the way up to Epsom Common. For me, I don't see it as exercise, I see it as headspace. To be off of technology, listening to the birds and noises that being outside brings. But you can choose the reasons based on what inspires you.
Have you got any walks in the area or elsewhere that's inspiring then comment below!
The Sports rehab favourite places
The Barn KT9 - Great coffee, good community. Long leg stretch to get there and it's worth it.
Rico Cafe Ewell - Shorter leg stretch for me, but friendly staff and good coffee. Cakes are very tempting too!
Mandalina, Ewell. I don't think there called crepe's but its basically a crepe! Feta and spinach, adding any extra's is a winner!
After a decade treating various issues, this has probably been the busiest for ski related issues.
From broken bones, torn ligaments and shoulder issues from falls, I'm forever grateful for the sport providing me a good amount of patients!
Why so many this year?
The honest answser, I'm not sure. But what the evidence in the injury world suggests that the body often requires a fair amount of graded exposure to adapt to any given activity.
Then plus, we put the impact to the UK population not getting out onto the slopes with dare I say the words...Covid restrictions in the last few years, is it any wonder this year seems to have escalated.
Ultimately, my recommendations now would be to grab some ski lessons, build your strength and resiliance to direction change prior to booking that first ski trip. If you are looking to book and aren't quite sure on the types of exercise that would physically prepare your body, drop me a message or book in so we can develop these athletic qualities!
The Sports rehab favourite places April 2023
A busy April means not much exploring locally. But did grab a few walks down towards Ewell court, which is a sweet little loop from King George V recreation ground, Ewell and around the Hogsmill.
Bruges! Not particuarly local for all the Epsom folk, but I can recommend the walks, food and drinks!
Having worked for the MOD for the last six years, thousands of patients helped and got back to there goals, it's been a big step thinking about where I go next. Questioning what do I want to do next in my career.
Firstly, It means I can spend more time closer to home and lose 10 hours a week of commuting, which sounds rather splendid to gain some extra time.
But whilst ultimately the positive out weighed the negatives for me, I will miss the buzz of working with the armed forces, working with at times complex patients and the staff within the defence medical teams are some of the best people I've come across.
I leave some of my favourite pictures of what a wonderful and colourful time I've had in that role.
